Positioning is a decision, not a paragraph
Most founders treat positioning as a copywriting exercise — a tagline to polish, a paragraph to wordsmith. It is not. Positioning is a decision, and usually an uncomfortable one, about who you are not for.
The sharpest brands I admire are defined as much by who they turn away as by who they serve. Every time you try to be for everyone, you become the safe, forgettable option for no one in particular.
So the real work is subtraction. Pick the customer you are willing to lose revenue over, and let that choice shape everything downstream — the price, the product, the tone. Clarity is a decision you make on purpose, not a sentence you write after the fact.
